چکیده

Variations of dry deposition velocity for S02 due to terrain-forced mesoscale circulations have been explored for northeast Colorado and south Florida. A mesoscale numerical model was used to obtain the wind and turbulence data needed to calculate the deposition velocities. Computations were performed both with and without consideration of observed land use characteristics. The results indicate that while variations in land use often dominate mesoscale variations of deposition velocity, mesoscale circulations can produce regions of enhanced deposition velocity. We recommend that simultaneous measurements of deposition velocity be made at multiple sites within a region in order to clarify the influence of terrain-forced mesoscale circulations on dry deposition. Key word index: Acid deposition, air pollution, dry deposition, numerical modeling, sea breezes, sulfur dioxide.

Transfer Resistances of NO2 Determined from Eddy Correlation Flux Measurements over a Litter Meadow at a Rural Site on the Swiss Plateau

In the years 1992 and 1993 a first attempt was made to experimentally determine the net input of oxidized and reduced nitrogen into a natural protected area in rural Switzerland. The results of this project were published by Hesterberg et al. (1995). In this paper, the processes governing the NO2 fluxes are discussed. Simple parametrisations or transfer schemes are needed for mesoscale modellin...

Nevertheless, these few studies have demonstrated the...

Air Pollution Processing by Radiation Fogs

Several fog episodes occurred in California’s San Joaquin Valley during winter 2000/2001. Measurements revealed the fogs to generally be less than 50 m deep, but to contain high liquid water contents (frequently exceeding 200 mg/m) and large droplets. The composition of the fog water was dominated by ammonium (median concentration= 608 μN), nitrate (304 μN), and organic carbon (6.9 ppmC), with ...

A multiple-scale simulation of variations in atmospheric carbon dioxide using a coupled biosphere-atmospheric model

[1] Variations of atmospheric CO2 at regional scales are becoming increasingly important in understanding regional carbon budgets, yet the processes that drive them remain relatively unexplored. A simulation was conducted to test a coupled biosphereatmospheric model (SiB2-RAMS), by comparing with measurements made at the WLEFTV tower in Wisconsin, and to investigate some of the mechanisms leadi...
